Elbow Hollow

Employing biophilic design principles, the spaces of this home are intended to promote wellness through a direct connection with the natural environment. Floor to ceiling glazing provides a direct visual connection to the surrounding wilderness while keeping the interior naturally lit throughout the day. Opening the 15’ wide bifold doors onto the outdoor terrace literally removes the boundary between outdoor and indoor allowing fresh mountain air and the sounds of the river to permeate the interior. Natural woods tones, stone and earthy finish selections create a sophisticated rustic interior. With an expressed desire for fire resistance and resilience, the exterior is clad in fiber cement fly ash siding, natural local stone, metal and stucco with a color palette derived from the surrounding forest and river. Deep roof overhangs block the harsh summer sun and protect the exterior from frequent rains. Large glu-lam timbers are present in many areas of the home allowing for dramatic spans and cantilevers.
