Farmhouse

This single family residence sits on the high point of a long and narrow site between a county road and the Columbia River. The structure is two stories tall to allow for great views of both farmland and the river. The modernized farmhouse features generous glazing throughout, as well as a “wrap-in” porch that slides between the two simple volumes of the house.

The house will be a “forever home” for a retiring couple from Portland, and is responsive to the existing aesthetic of the surrounding vernacular architecture, while being appropriate for modern life. The house features five sections of multi-slide glass doors that are sixteen feet wide, along with an even larger section that is twenty-four wide and opens at the press of a button.

Exterior materials include board and batten siding and standing seam metal roofs that will stand up to the elements and are timeless in nature. A walnut tree on the site will be utilized for interior furnishings and finishes in several locations.
