Federal Style Renovation
In 1816, when this home was built, the understated Federal style was emerging as the signature American architectural expression. However, in the 1900s, this home saw changing styles and new owners, meaning it went through a period of decline and unfortunate additions.
This project returned the home to elegant restraint, restoring the street view to Federal architecture and replacing the hodgepodge of ells and additions at the back with family-friendly open interiors and a historically compatible exterior.
This residence was featured in the September/October 2009 issue of Design New England magazine.
