Ferndale House

A roomy new shingle style home for a growing family set amid early 20th Century estate homes. The new home was built behind the original 1950’s house which was subsequently demolished to create a front yard – no moving vans required.

A wide front porch welcomes visitors and provides a place to linger.

Welcome Home

The gabrel roofed entry porch leads to the front entry, which is at a 45 degree angle to the majority of the plan.

The entry foyer leads to a gracious curved stair that takes one to the second floor bedrooms. The beech floor incorporates walnut inlays.

Front Entry Hall

The back stair leads from the kitchen area to the kid's bedrooms. There is a seat on the landing that is a nice spot to read or perhaps a place for a time out.

The kitchen, with its harlequin patterned linoleum floor, includes a center island with a table-like end as well as a built in L shaped banquette for family dining.

The mud room incorporates roomy storge cubbies for each member of the family.

A small formal living room occupies the corner of theis L shaped house. The fireplace is on axis with the front door. Sliding doors on either side of the fireplace lead to a stone patio.

Built-in cabinet with cast palster alcoves occupy the corners of the lozenge shaped dining room.
