West Fork House

A hillside home in a small river valley, this house was designed to appear small on the outside, but be open on the inside. Reclaimed and remilled Douglas fir was used throughout the interior.

A view from the east shows the daylight lower level, which houses two bedrooms and a recreation room. The deck is waterproofed and paved with flagstone, so the area below is dry and useful as an outdoor room.

The living room, dining room, and kitchen are three steps lower than the rest of the main level, providing increased ceiling height. The floor, ceiling, cabinets, beams, and window trim were all re-milled from Douglas fir salvaged from obsolete wooden grain elevators.
