This homeowner wanted to update this ordinary fireplace facade. The homeowner wanted glitz and glam. My suggestion for the material was onyx as the client has a love for exotic stones.
We demoed the existing fireplace surround and installed floor to ceiling onyx. In the after picture you can see the up and down lighting which illuminates the design and highlights the variety depth of the stones. I used a block motif in which the material is placed at different depth from the wall. This creates a 3D effect and adds more interest and life to the wall. The natural color of the onyx also brings out the golden tone out of the owners personal collection of Chinese Cloisonné.
