Forest House, Hudson Valley NY
This Hudson Valley home started with the gabled, two-story American house, and reinvents it for life among the trees. Set in the woods, the design by AMPOPS carves into the familiar volume rather than sprawling across the site. Those cuts open courtyards, deep overhangs, and glass that frames the forest, and let the house step around existing trees and follow the slope. The geometry reads as complex from outside, but it rests on plain, buildable construction. Double-height spaces, interior bridges, and long sightlines keep the woods present from room to room, while a floating wood stair, a slim steel fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling glazing give the interior a calm, modern warmth. The house holds a light footprint and feels rooted to its clearing.
