Front Yard Overhaul
For this landscape re-design, we began by sketching the new layout and decided that the overgrown spruce trees by the front entrance would be removed and a few changes would be made to the existing landscape in order to improve it both aesthetically and functionally.
Previously the front path ran close beside the house, however we decided to push the path further out in order to leave room for a garden bed in between; making better use of the existing space. The patio and path would be constructed with tumbled roman pavers instead of its’ original concrete slab, and would be built as one level instead of being broken into two, as was previously.
The rotting, wood retention for the juniper garden would be replaced with large natural stone, and the junipers replaced with deciduous shrubs and a featured spruce tree. We minimized the island bed in the middle of the driveway, replacing the crumbling brick border with more natural rock and planting the bed with decorative grasses and shrubs. The transformation was immediate!
The natural stone borders and addition of plant material significantly helped the house fit better into its natural setting on the property. The new layout of the patio and pathways gave the front entrance a more inviting and less cluttered look, and the garden beds simply became beautiful again.
Out with the old, and in with the new!
