Galley kitchen redesign

Starting with a dark and dated kitchen we redesigned the functionality and flow and provided more usable work surfaces, storage capabilities, improved lighting and bright materials for a seamless design.

More storage and counter space were the main priorities.

We decided to repurpose this space by replacing the door with a window and continuing the cabinets to the wall.

Upon asbestos abatement completion we were ready to start reframing the space. Since we were removing the door, we also replaced the dining room window with a sliding patio door to access the large raised deck space.

With framing nearly complete the next stage was waterproofing and adding bluesman to exposed framing.

In this photo, the electrical rough-in is complete along with framing. We also increased the opening from kitchen to dining room by two feet.

We removed the stipple ceilings and created a smooth finish by adding a second layer of 1/4" drywall to the rough and previously repaired ceiling.
Ready for mud and taping joints
Mudding and taping and tons of sanding.
Mudding/taping & cabinet install
A gray and white marble subway tile, thick white sparkling quartz countertops, glossy white cabinets, grey flooring and stainless steel appliances ties everything together.
Oh yeah! :) Nice and bright
Undermount stainless sink, faucet and soap dispenser centred with new window. Additional plugs were added for more functionality.

The addition of the wall oven and surface mount stove brings this kitchen into the 21st century. To maximize its storage capabilities we installed drawers in every base cabinet and created a built-in effect on the fridge wall.
