Hacienda Haven
It is very rewarding for a designer to work with clients who want a personalized home design instead of being concerned about the re-sale value with the choices they make in the design process. This empty nesting couple sold a large stately multi-level home they had built and bought a modest single-story home on a suburban golf course. They wanted to simplify their life style needs and create a haven to spend many happy years together.
Their style preference was “Hacienda” and sourced our design company from previous work we had completed in this style. The home they had bought however was “styleless” so a complete gut, down to the studs was necessary to obtain their vision.
The entire residence was re-space planned. Walls were removed from the kitchen and dining areas to open-up a Great Room space where living, dining and the kitchen are all enjoyed in one area. The ceiling was removed, and beams were installed to the vaulted ceiling creating a voluminous area with architectural accents to promote the theme.
The design of the master suite was very important to provide a large closet combining “his” and “her” grooming areas which included storage for their sizable collection of apparel. To achieve this, we appropriated space from two secondary bedrooms to accommodate their closet needs. This space was connected to the laundry room where sports attire can be easily deposited for laundering. The newly space planned master bedroom has a charming Kiva fireplace designed in the corner creating a cozy ambience to the sleeping area. A sizable master bath provides two sink areas, a vanity, a two-person steam shower, and an entire wall for toiletries storage.
We also helped design a large guest suite that is accessible from the entry, but also completely private from the master suite.
A large patio with a pergola was designed for the length of the newly created Great Room. Large picture windows and a French door access this area which provides a built-in BBQ, alfresco dining space and relaxing seating area adjacent to the golf course greens and shady trees.
The home exterior was transformed to reflect the Hacienda styling. Adobe brick was used on the exterior as well as some accent walls in the interior master suite. Spanish roof tile was added with many other features including a 3-tier fountain at the entry door. The furnishings are designed to accent the theme; which include some personal pieces that have been re-used from their prior home to fit comfortably with the new furniture. The clients couldn’t be happier with the outcome of their remodel!
