Highlands Interior Remodel

This 1911 cottage had been through numerous remodels over the years, losing some of its charm, function, and structural support in the process. The new owners wanted to restore the connection between the entertaining rooms of the house and have direct access to the back yard. They also wanted a larger master closet and bathroom, a powder room for guests, without losing kitchen and closet storage and without having to tear out and redo the kitchen. During the structural assessment, we found that the previous owner, who had flipped the house for profit, had inadvertently removed a section of load-bearing wall, so we needed to correct that error as well. Redesigning the layout of the existing house while minimizing exterior modifications and structural changes enabled this family to solve their issues with the house at a lower budget point.
