Rose Hill ADU addition

This family wanted to make room for elderly parents to live with them, but still have their own space and independence, so they were looking to build an ADU. The biggest design challenge for this project was working within the odd-shaped spaces on the lot because the existing house was built at an angle. They also didn’t want the addition to look like an addition. The owners contacted Dansk Design after frustrated attempts with other architectural designs failed to accommodate all their specifications.

Using our creative and collaborative process, we developed this design that met all their specifications, as well as adding age-in-place features like an inconspicuous ramp up to the ADU entrance, wider doors, and ample room to maneuver with a walker or wheelchair. We were also able to give the owners a walk-in-closet for the main house master suite and a large front porch to give the house more curb appeal. The additions tie in seamlessly to the existing structure and what was a little brown rambler is now a striking mid-century modern house.
