This project earned an AIA Vermont Excellence in Architecture Design Award in 2022.

Conceptually, House at Kingdom Farm is designed to be an integral component of a rural landscape, yet avoids a literal or nostalgic conformance to the farm or Vermont vernacular precedent. Instead, we adopted a casual conformance to precedent while including fresh architectural expressions of our time and gave
careful consideration to massing, materiality, and environmental sustainability.

The massing of the house is loosely based on the farm’s 30 x 40 English barn with a shed roof addition and open, wraparound porch. This simple massing adequately delivers on the spatial requirements of the owners’ architectural program, while also providing passive solar benefits.
