Remix House
To best meet our client’s objectives, we applied the Remix spirit to the archetypal elements of New England vernacular architecture, carefully selecting those most appropriate, namely: continuous architecture, the cape form, the shed form, and the timber frame. The artful reconfiguration of these elements onto and into the landscape results in a unique architectural expression that is at once familiar and unexpected, enhancing the human experience of the magnificent site.
Capitalizing on the west-facing views of the mountains was primary in configuring the interior layout of the house. The welcoming main entry opens to a well-protected, east-facing courtyard sheltered by the main house to the west and to the garage to the north. Timber framing over the entry extends to a covered walk, providing protected circulation to the garage and forming a covered outdoor porch in summer.
