The house is sited so as to optimize passive solar gains and incorporates Passive Haus principles to achieve Efficiency Vermont's High Performance Home Certification and a home energy index (HERS) of 36 prior to installation of on-site renewable energy systems. Once populated with solar panels, the large south facing shed roof will provide adequate electric energy generation to achieve net-zero annual energy usage.
