Initially we began by trying to create a new layout by keeping the kitchen in its existing location, but it didn’t offer more storage or a better functioning kitchen. So we opted to introduce a layout that would require relocating the kitchen into the family room and the family room into the kitchen. When the clients saw the benefits and what they would gain by doing that, they hopped right on board. We eliminated a wood burning fireplace which became the focal point wall for the gas range flanked by the fridge and microwave/oven combination unit. The wall that once housed a television now houses a floor to ceiling pantry. Originally the long narrow space had two sliding doors along the exterior wall leading onto the backyard which didn’t serve any functional purpose other than providing extra natural light. So we replaced one of the sliding doors with a new window which allowed us to utilize the bottom portion of the wall for additional cabinetry and became the perfect spot for the sink. This kitchen is anchored with an expansive 13 foot island that offers seating for up to 8 people while containing extra storage plus a wine fridge. On the opposite end of the room, the family room is symmetrically balanced around a new gas fireplace with built-in shelves/base storage and two sofas. This is not only a great spot for lounging as a family but a great conversation area when entertaining. “We love to host, and after the completion of the renovation there was of course a reveal party for our friends. We found it interesting and amazing how the new space influenced our guests. Before, the men would break away from the women and spend most of the evening separated, but with the new space, this didn’t happen. Everyone was engaged with each other and the party felt so much livelier. It was fantastic!” informed us our clients. We truly believe that a successful space isn’t just something pretty to look at; it needs to improve the lifestyle of our clients. This project is a testament to that.
