JR Modern and Rustic
Our company was tasked with this renovation this spring. The clients were wanting a change to their pieced together bungalow. A few additions were added over the years and at different stages. The living room was first, then the dining room was added later. As was such the rooms were quite cut off from each other. The clients wanted a more open concept with better flow. So the wall was taken down between the living room and dining room and structurally supported to give a great spacious feel.
All the old flooring was replaced by beautiful new low maintenance vinyl planking throughout. A new French door was installed in the dining area to open up onto a great new deck in the private courtyard.
The kitchen was completely redesigned to give more space and functionality. All the amenities of the modern kitchen were included such as a pull out recycling/garbage drawer, pullouts in the floor to ceiling pantrys and a pot filler above the range. As the clients own style was very earthy and rustic we decided to fuse the modern with the heritage. With the bright new Shaker style cabinets we injected rustic barn board accents in the forms of beams and cladding. The granite was very carefully chosen to fit with the style. We ended up with a beautiful slab that had the colours and the patterns of natural wood.
In the end everything ended up melding well...the old with the new, modern with rustic. Enjoy!
