Kitchen With A View

With Manhattan skyline views, this CT shoreline kitchen has a room with a view inside and out. Mixed materials like mahogany, marble countertops and backsplash combined with geometric onyx and glass tile, painted and natural woods and metal hood create interest and drama. The kitchen design as well as the adjacent mahogany paneled family room was inspired by the elegance of yacht interiors. Designed to maximize water views, the pie shaped island combines the practicality of stone on the working side with the warmth of wood for the eating area. Building the cabinetry to the ceiling in a small kitchen provides maximum storage; a soft color for the cabinetry keeps the kitchen area light and bright. With European clients, refrigeration space is always more important than freezer space so we opted for a Subzero full height refrigerator and added 2 Subzero under counter freezer drawers. Not to take away from the characteristics in the beautiful marble we chose an inconspicuous Thermador Induction cooktop under a fabulous bronze metal hoof from Rangecraft.
Miele Steam oven was added for healthy everyday cooking in addition to a full size oven Miele in a separate location for holiday and entertaining cooking. Appliance selections are quite personal to every kitchen. I always recommend buying what you need and getting my clients to think about future needs with growing families or perhaps downsizing for empty nesters.

From my clients
“Our relationship with Rebecca spans several years. She was originally hired to help renovate our former house, but instead we changed directions and built a new home. Her work extended beyond the kitchen to include cabinetry in the Dining Room and Family Room. The kitchen is well designed and has an amazing backsplash with a beautiful, large two-tone copper hood. We get compliments about our kitchen all the time. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome! Rebecca has an amazing eye for color, fabric and texture and she made my life so much easier during the building process!!”
