It's always nice to be asked back. We had worked with this home's owners four years previously on their front garden. The backyard presented us with the challenge of fulfilling the owner's wishlist in the space allotted. After analyzing the site, we came up with the idea to create levels-of living spaces. The lower level is a dining area of Ipe hardwood in a semi circle configuration. At the western end is a raised vegetable garden with the pool equipment ensconced in a vault beneath it; and the eastern end has a pass through hall behind the BBQ with ample storage closets painted to match the homes shutters. Two sweeping brick steps up and you're at the pool level. Thirty feet of the pool edge doubles as a seat wall. The pool has a 'swim against the current' machine and an auto cover for safety. The upper level is a cozy outdoor room with a BBQ, a variable speed water fountain and a gas fireplace. The existing retaining wall is softened by cascading plants and vines. The project turned out well, and best of all the owners are happy with the job.
