This is a small open courtyard in the middle of the residence. Atriums were a common feature in ancient Rome with the purpose of providing light and ventilation to the interior of the home. All materials coming in and going out had to be hand carried through the occupied residence. This small space was transformed with images of an old Italian village cafe in mind. The owners collected international antiques were incorporated into the design The gentle murmur from a water-wall echoes to the overlooking balcony. Because space was precious, a hidden subterranean reservoir was built, creating the illusion that the falling water disappears into the floor. It gets even better after dark, LED accent lights cast dramatic shadows while highlighting pots, furnishings and the fountain. It feels like the moon is out and shining in all the right places. This was the CLCA lighting award winner in 2012
