Landscape Overlooking Lake Michigan
The owners of this home wanted a landscape plan that would maximize the incredible natural features of the Lake Michigan shoreline, so David J. Frank worked very closely with them to achieve a subtle design that played off the home’s contemporary character while giving it a muted “California” look.
The highlight (and greatest challenge) was the rear terrace. The lake side of the home is primarily glass, so we enhanced the view by extending the line of the architect’s radial beams on the interior ceiling, down the window mullions and out toward the lake in the form of natural stone bands on the patio design. A series of natural stone retaining walls create use areas including a lakeside terrace with fire pit and lighted boat launch.
