Late Modern Renovation

A second floor addition to an existing bungalow provided space for a Master Bedroom suite. The ground floor was renovated by removing walls, enlarging the Kitchen, and raising the ceiling above the Living Room to create a dramatic and light-filled central space.
A large skylight shaft is positioned over the island. The large shaft allows a simple and small skylight to flood the space with light. Sun studies were done to ensure that the sunlight would be able to reach the dining room table beyond, at least in the winter months.

A ridge skylight faces south and brings sunlight to the interior, while a dropped ceiling provides a more cozy plac for the couch.

As well as bringing light into the ground floor of the house, the stairwell also brings light into the Master Bedroom through an etched glass wall. A shelf becomes an opportunity for a sculpture display.
