We combined clean-line contemporary elements with an organic and natural material twist in this contemporary kitchen. The outcome was an unquestionable harmony of earth and art. Storage needs were addressed with a large walk-in pantry which allowed the kitchen to have less upper cabinets thus following the contemporary template of “less is more”. Horizontal lines were a theme which was executed in everything from the wood grain on the cabinets, backsplash tile, and fireplace design. The earthy materials included teak cabinets by Decor, honed granite countertops and grass infused resin which was made from 40% pre-consumer recycled material. The trick to harmony in design was combining contrasting elements in the right quantities to please the fickle eye. We did this by combining rustic woods such as the teak cabinets, the natural walnut breakfast bar, and the Brazilian walnut floor with shiny stainless steel appliances, chartreuse glass tile, and back-lit steel framed frosted glass cabinet doors.
