LMF kitchen addition

This project was envisioned by my client & good friend for many years before our 3D design process helped bring it to life. A small and failing entry porch adjacent to the driveway was removed & the new addition stands in its footprint. Housing a new stairwell, part of the new kitchen, and a new office on the 2nd floor, this small addition has transformed the home.

The new addition roughly occupies the footprint of a small & poorly constructed entry porch. The large window illuminates the new stairwell.

At the back, a garden window adds extra space at the sink area, and a new entry beyond replaces the one lost at the old porch. The breakfast nook is left of center and the new office is above the kitchen.

The new kitchen stretches into the addition providing more storage & countertop space. Custom quartersawn white oak cabinetry and resilient cork flooring add a warm glow.

The new stairwell is relocated and turned 90° to provide space for the new kitchen layout; the new basement door is at right.

A cozy breakfast nook is located within the new addition's footprint at the east end of the kitchen. A bookcase on the north wall faces a high stained glass window that spills light from the new stairwell beyond.

An antique Arcade coffee grinder finds a new home at the garden window. Countertop granite is used as a curb and windowsill, and stainless steel tiles provide a counterpoint to the bright blue tile backsplash.

The new cooking station provides ample countertop and storage on either side of the range, and is now located out of the traffic flow.

Cold and dry storage all in one place: custom pantry cabinets surround a full-sized refrigerator.
