SCH kitchen

By adding a small addition for a mudroom and Laundry room, we were able to expand this kitchen by a short 30", but it made all of the difference in this new modern design.

Although this new kitchen stretches over a slightly longer footprint than the previous layout, the space gained allows for longer work surfaces, a new island, and a better breakfast bar than before.

Before: the original kitchen had a tight U-shaped work area and limited work space around the cooktop.

Before: the cabinets at the far wall squeezed the traffic flow to the basement stairs and garage entry behind the refrigerator at left. This wall was moved about 30" east to get the cabinets out of the way of the entry.

By designing a small addition to house a laundry and mudroom, we were able to move the east wall about 30" to locate the new cabinets out of traffic at the doorway to the basement/garage, and now the counter top spans the full width of the kitchen.

Before: the small breakfast bar with seating for 3 shares space with traffic flow between the kitchen and dining/living room. The refrigerator and wall ovens (background) were removed and replaced with a shallow pantry to improve floor space in the kitchen.

The opening between the kitchen and dining/living room was expanded to allow for a new, longer breakfast bar with seating for 4. New refrigeration is located in the coffee station area at left.

The new breakfast bar provides a great social area behind the range. A pair of new refrigerators flank the coffee station at the left, and a new shallow pantry occupies the space where the previous refrigerator and wall ovens were located.

Before: looking west over the original breakfast bar. The hutch on the right was moved out of the kitchen, and a built-in china cabinet behind the far wall was removed to add about 24" to the kitchen's footprint.

Twin Liebherr refrigerator/freezers flank the new coffee station at the west wall. A built-in Thermador coffee/espresso machine is mounted above a small work surface, and a separate wine fridge is below.

A bright orange 36" Bluestar range and Prizer Manhattan vent hood provide a focal point at the center of the kitchen.

Mirrored glass doors highlight the upper cabinets along the east wall. Open shelves provide for a collection of cookbooks, and LED under-cabinet lighting washes the wall below, showing off the frosted glass tiles.
