This stunning kitchen remodel was originally a dated, 80’s style space that was closed off from the surrounding rooms and suffered from cramped, dysfunctional work areas. The homeowner sought help to achieve an open concept kitchen that was both beautiful and functional, with spacious work areas, ample storage, and custom amenities for an avid wine connoisseur. Kitchen Design Partners made the kitchen the center of the first floor by enlarging the openings to the adjoining breakfast and family rooms, removing an awkward angled wall, and creating a large opening in the wall over the sink to allow additional line of sight into the family room. The entire first floor received a new, light color palette, including oak hardwood floors. The stonework on the gorgeous fireplace in the family room was replaced to coordinate with the new palette. The rarely used formal dining room was converted into a much needed office and the newly opened breakfast room became a lovely casual dining room. Wall space in this kitchen is at a premium so instead of double ovens and separate cooktop, we installed a sleek, stainless steel Viking professional range next to a Sharp microwave drawer. We obtained critical storage space by utilizing raised-panel wall cabinets that extend to the ceiling throughout the kitchen. In several places the wall cabinetry extends to the countertops in efficient appliance garages for even more storage depth. The centralized kitchen has no windows for direct natural light so we selected a soft shade of antique white paint with glaze finish for all the kitchen cabinetry, including the island. The huge, functional island provides generous prep space and comfortable seating for four while also serving as a dramatic centerpiece that seems to be almost a work of art. The unique, eye-catching island countertop is petrified wood exotic stone that extends to overhang on two sides for the large cushioned stools. The matching raised-panel island cabinetry has ample storage drawers with full-extension, soft-close undermount glides. A classic bar and a separate wine bar provide standard beverage service and the amenities the homeowner desired as a wine connoisseur. We added light, drama and beauty at every angle with a custom hood, a custom tile mural backsplash, glass doors in the bar cabinetry, cabinet panels to hide appliances and oil rubbed bronze faucets and cabinet hardware.
