Lower Level Walk-out Redesign

A common design 'puzzle': Lower Level Walkouts are typically underutilized spaces, tending to be dark and have low-ceilings of the overhead porch.
This rear porch off of main floor [at second level, as grade drops from front to back] is a family and entertaining space. Guest approach is from the west, but stairs began from the east, and also blocked the view from new exercise room in lower level [before pix]
Stairs were removed, thereby opening views out to backyard and beyond; and rebuilt closer to guest approach- a new stone slab step descent through white birches and hydrangeas [see 'hillside quest approach to backyard']
The space is now a stylish Sunken Patio, having been excavated down a foot, creating a nestled environment yet with a higher ceiling...quite a transformation from a dark unused space to an inviting outdoor room.
