Luna Rossa

Located on an Island off the Intracoastal Waterway in South Florida, the home is the main residence for a middle age couple with older children that visit throughout the year. The clients expressed a keen interest in Japanese and modern architecture.
The design strategy involved the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces to capitalize on South Florida living. The home’s aesthetic is consistent inside and out. Its geometry is clearly expressed through the use of materials. The East and West wings on the second floor are clad in wood, while the first story walls are clad in stone. A series of open spaces, already visible from the street, leads visitors to the main entrance of the house. The street garden pierces through the front fence wall to reveal the water feature behind. The front garden leads to a two story open courtyard with a green wall. Visitors experience the garden and courtyard as they are led to the front door. On the first floor, service areas are on the left culminating with the kitchen and breakfast area. Public spaces are on the right and culminate with the great pavilion adjacent to the pool. Sliding doors fully open to let the landscape in.
