This hillside started with a timber retaining wall that was rotting and starting to lean. the customer wanted to replace the failing wood wall with a retaining wall that would stabalize the hillside and be worry free for a very long time. They also wanted a wall that tied into the natural stone wall already in place. We decided on the AllenBlock Europa Series retaining wall block. it offered a color that worked with the natural stone and had a wall face that was not uniform and mimicked the uneven face of the natural stone. We added plantings of Abalia, Elijah's Blue Fescue, Blue Hadspen Hosta and Color Guard Yucca to contrast the darker coloration of the retaining wall. An upper patio was added that offers a westerdly view of the horizon and landscape lighting topped off the space offering evening elegance to an already beautiful backyard.
