MARSHALL HOUSE – New Construction
Marshall, NC | 4,500 SF | Residential
For this 4,500 square-foot retreat in the mountain town of Marshall, North Carolina, we selected
hand-scribed Engleman spruce and Douglas fir logs for the exterior and interior walls, columns,
trusses, stairs and railings. The house is integrated with its steeply sloping site, celebrating
natural features, such as a brook that cascades beneath the walkway to the rear porch.
The spectacular view of the mountains is captured in multiple locations throughout the house,
most dramatically in the double-height living room, which boasts floor to ceiling windows. For
the other interior spaces, we worked with the owners to design a floorplan that suited their
family’s needs, including a kitchen with breakfast alcove, a formal dining room, a master
bedroom suite, guest bedrooms and baths, offices, and a room designated for media and
meditation.
