This remodel quintupled the size of the tiny master bathroom. A single column supports a bearing wall, allowing the shower area and rest of the room to function as one. The walls behind and alongside the jacuzzi were removed creating visual space from what was a crawl space. Cherry panels and a carrara marble surround with mitred corners dress it nicely. The capacious shower stands in the place of a walk-in closet and adjacent crawl space. A clerestory window above head level permts entry of sunlight from the adjacent skylight over the new walk-in closet. The toilet was relocated to a separate enclosed space behind the jacuzzi. A two-sink vanity replaced the single sink. Carrara marble floors are heated and a programmable daily thermostat ensures morning and evening comfort every day of the week. A prior foundation problem (corrected) had left the floors uneven and incapable of supporting marble. A careful ledgering of the joists and 1.5 inches of subflooring yielded a perfectly level, robustly supportive floor.
