Medfield, Ma.

Owner of Mike’s City Diner in Boston’s South End neighborhood, Jay Hajj migrated to the U.S. from Lebanon, at the age of 8. Jay has a natural entrepreneurial spirit, and a larger than life personality. As a young adult, Jay opened a tiny Falafel Restaurant in Central Sq., followed up by a Frozen Yogurt establishment. Today, Jay is a partner in many renowned restaurants throughout Boston, the most recent, Yvonne’s in Downtown Crossing.
Jay and Janet Hajj have 4 children, ranging from 17 to 6 years old, and when they purchased the historic “Wight” residence in 2014, Jay knew he had finally stumbled upon his American Dream. The home was originally built in 1760 for one of the founders of Medfield, Jonathan Wight, and is now a local landmark.
We first met and worked with Jay in 2013, when we gave the interior of Mike’s City Diner a face lift, sourcing new tables, chairs, lighting, and tile, and the end result was exactly what Jay had hoped for. When Jay reached out to us regarding his new farm house in Medfield, we jumped at the chance to flex our design muscles.
The entire residence was completely gutted down to the foundation and original solid walnut beams and columns. It didn’t take long for Jay to realize that he wanted to add an additional 3,000 Sq Ft, for his dream kitchen alone would be 1,500 Sq Ft.
Every detail throughout the entire residence was sourced and chosen by Color Theory Boston, with Jay’s only specific request, “I would like Americana meets Lebanon”. One & half years later, Jay and his family finally settled into their forever home.
It was very proud moment for all of us to have this project showcased in the Oct./Nov. 2016 issue of DESIGN New England. Jay’s Home Office was featured in the Winter 2016 issue of Boston Home Magazine.
