With an existing 1400 square foot, three bedroom home and a family of seven, including the grandfather, it was time for the Mekonnens to add on. We decided to add a second story master bedroom, two additional bedrooms, expand the kitchen, and add a mudroom and new two car garage. The client wanted to base the design on a simple English Tudor style and open the floor plan to allow more light and space. We centered the design around a custom oak staircase and a vaulted ceiling in the study, a space reserved for the teenage children to complete their homework. High efficiency windows, hydronic heat, swamp cooler, and superior insulation package complete the green upgrades. The 1500sf addition was a complete transformation of the existing and deteriorating 50’s Denver square, and provided an efficient use of space and budget.
