Metropolis Penthouse

The Metropolis is an Art Deco styled loft highrise built in 1998 as part of the heritage redevelopment of the historic Canadian Linen building of the 1930s. This penthouse is a unique downtown property, with a bespoke custom interior by architect and designer Peter Cardew. Towering two-storey interior volumes and mezzanine walkways above make for dramatic interior spaces, and of course jaw-dropping views thanks to walls of glass overlooking the cityscape.

Our challenge in staging this trophy property was to bring a current, up-to-date styling treatment and feel to the space, respecting and enhancing the outstanding interior design by Cardew. As a nod to the architect, we were able to include some furniture pieces from our inventory that were designed by him – can you spot them?

Steps from the mezzanine, an art deco dining arrangement is just within view to add depth and wonder to an open space.
Stepping from Living to Dining
More than just a walkway, this transitionary space needed a purpose to capitalize on an urban view. A dark arrangement was selected to contrast the natural wood tones of this custom millwork.
Office with a View
Soft greens and blues creep into this penthouse palate to give a more vibrant personality to the space. A large art deco styled area rug was selected as an ode to the architect's vision.
A Long Plush Section of Space
More millwork fills the space, this time we used tan dining chairs to seamlessly accentuate kitchen cabinetry for a chic look.
Black and Tan
In the distance, a lone armchair looms over a city view making for a number of interesting vantage point vignettes.
Peekaboo Penthouse View
Meeting in the middle, sliding doors shelter a cozy getaway from the bustle of a city below. A heavy texture area rug was selected to soften rich floors and accentuate a neutral arrangement.
Causal Lounge Space
Frosted rolling glass partitions are located throughout the space to accommodate a versatile flow. Pinstriped pillows and a neutral headboard were selected to point interest toward geometric lamps and detailed artwork.
Strolling into a Spare
Affixed to the middle of this massive master suite, millwork leads to a heathered bedroom furnishings that give way to a textured area rug.
An Island of Your Own
A wonderful welcome to each and every day, this was a bedroom view that needed furnishing to provide vantage points from every angle.
