After spending a few years in Australia, Sally and Chuck Mitchell returned to their Arlington home longing to recreate a seamless connection with the landscape that they had experienced living abroad. Working closely with them, we replaced a small enclosed porch with a cozy four-season lounge off the living room that incorporates a dining area. Expansive glass and continuous stone flooring blur the distinction between inside and out. The roof tilts back to reveal the enormity of three magnificent white oak trees in the back yard. The adjacent landscape, designed by Sally, is framed by laurel bushes that reciprocates the intimate quality of the new addition.
