Modern Romance
Elements of rusted steel, Ipe wood, architectural concrete and natural rock create a multi dimensional backdrop for textural, colorful drought tolerant plantings in this Utah garden. The modern design of the home helped dictate the modern design of the gardens. Multiple axis run through the garden, with near mirror images being 'disturbed', but honored, with fruit trees on one side of the garden being balanced by beautifully crafted hexagon Corten steel herb planters on the other. The planters were linked together in a manner that suggest honeycomb, giving a nod to the Beehive State where it is located. Plants were selected for low water usage, texture, leaf color and interesting.bark. They include Paperbark Maple, pennisetum Karley Rose, Blue Fescue, Black Mondo Grass, Britt Marie Crawford ligularia, broom, Red Mediland Roses, and Batik iris -she loves red, he loves blue!. Compacted road base paths link his and hers putting greens, a destination patio with steel supports for canvas shade cloths, Ipe wood bars, fruit trees, the herb garden, and a berry patch, This garden is striking in its design, combines all the elements of play that the owners' desired, and is extremely functional and practical. It was a really fun project.
