Modern Treehouse

This modern farmhouse design was driven by a native oak tree near the center of the building pad. Instead of ending in a tree removal, the beauty of the Oak tree became an inspiration for the floor plan, landscape, and circulation of this home. The result is a home and views that could not be duplicated.

Terraced patios and folding doors lead friends and family outside under the canopy of a majestic oak. The floor plan and interior spaces were inspired by a heritage sized oak tree. The back yard becomes a magical forest after twilight.

Front gable roof elements are arranged in a balanced composition to highlight the entry and stair. The concrete pathway and driveway are colored to match the roof tones, bringing the house into the site. An enormous oak tree is an elegant backdrop for the design.

A double door entry and raised bluestone porch welcome guests from a concrete stepping stone walkway.

Inside, the entry doors open to reveal a large two-story stair lobby with modern railings and a clear view of the oak tree. Grey tones in the flooring continue the warm exterior theme into the home. An organic chandelier is selected to enhance the design inspired by the large oak in the yard.

No tree house is complete without a bridge. The view from this entryway opens directly into the side and rear yards showing off the majestic oak that inspired the design and anchors the home.

Circulation at the edge of the spaces promotes a strong relationship with the outdoors. Generous use of glass brings in natural light and encourages people to walk outside.

The kitchen, nook, and family room combine to create an open and comfortable great room. Folding patio doors allow full use of the outdoor covered patios and walkways. High transom windows bring in natural light and views of the tree canopy.
