Mt Vernon Square

Drawn to the high ceilings and bits of period detailing, the new owners of this 1910 Washington, DC row house saw promise in its bones — but much of its original character had been stripped away. A 1980s renovation left the kitchen isolated at the rear, disconnected from the home’s grand public rooms.
Fowlkes Studio approached the project with a dual mission: to restore the building’s traditional framework and to introduce discreet, contemporary interventions that bring clarity and cohesion to the layout.
