Outdoor Renovation

Client's home is a traditional center hall brick colonial with a back yard adjacent to Town park. Original yard featured a small (20' x 10') brick patio and low brick wall that obscured views to the gardens.

Working closely with the clients, I developed a scheme that extended out into the yard, more than doubling the size of the patio with an organic, gentle oval surrounded by a low garden wall made with local Goshen stone. The wall is interrupted to provide a connection with the gardens beyond.

Also, I designed a grill center (also made with Goshen stone) featuring a 36" grill, refrigerator, ice drawer, and a trellis overhead.

With the addition of teak outdoor furniture, the patio now truly functions as an outdoor room for dining and relaxing as well as a gentle, gracious extension of the house to the woods behind the yard.
