Pervious Paver Courtyard and Storm Water Management System

This courtyard demonstrates that vehicle parking areas can be beautiful and highly functional. Pervious clay pavers of several colors create interest and integrate the paving with the adjacent historic architecture. Different patterns are used to define an entry walk (a formal entry point) from the parking area. This courtyard is also a storm water management system capable of storing several thousand gallons of storm water runoff in the aggregate base below the pavers. Runoff from building roofs is discharged to the courtyard where it infiltrates through to the below-grade storage area. The retained storm water infiltrates in to the subsoil or is conveyed to the storm sewer system.
