Our patio was 18 years old and aging. The walls were starting to lean and it was becoming a hazard. We spoke to numerous contractors most of whom recommended demolishing it and building a new deck as a replacement for our tall patio. Along came Krugel Cobbles and was the first one to tell us that we should restore it vs. demolish. Jon developed a detailed proposal, spent time walking us through the exact process to rebuild with appropriate modifications so it will last and scheduled the project. Work started as planned and the team doing the work were super professional and hard working. They finished the project as per plan at a fair price and it has completely transformed the patio and gave it a new breath of life. I can't recommend Krugel Cobbles enough!

We worked with the team at Krugel Cobbles to replace our driveway. The driveway was in bad shape, but the worst of our issues were associated with water that surrounded our house in rain or snow that ended up coming into our basement or forming a moat of ice or water around one side of our house. So, we had a purpose beyond just making a nice looking driveway. We worked with Jon Hirsch and his team to create an eco-friendly driveway and side walk with permeable pavers and a drainage system that took the water from the side of the house and put it down the driveway and into the yard. Several serious rainstorms have happened since then and our sidewalk has not had puddles on it and the water is not getting into our house anymore. We couldn't be happier working with Jon and his team. They were hardworking, respectful of our house, clean, efficient, and fast. I recommend them without reservations. Oh yeah--it looks fantastic too and all the neighbours have commented on how much it improves the curb appeal of our house.

Krugel Cobbles installed all the hardscaping as part of a larger landscaping project at our home. This included a new entryway and front stoop, a landing pad for garbage cans, brickwork for a larger backyard patio, removal of a crumbling concrete retaining wall and stairway leading to our back door, pavers, and decorative rockwork. Everyone with Krugel did an outstanding job. President Jon Hirsch assessed the project at the start and generated a plan that was exactly what we hoped to see. When we discovered a buried oil tank in the back yard--more than 50 years old and still holding the remains of fuel oil--Krugel was flexible and helped us find ways on our project to save money to offset the cost of tank and contaminated soil removal. Every part of the install was expertly done. Krugel stone layers, brick workers and stair builders are true craftsmen. We love the design and pattern of the patio, the bluestone walkway to the rebuilt front stoop, and especially the inventive, strong and handsome replacement for the old back stairs and railing. I would not hesitate to employ Krugel again.

This local company is top notch. We needed a new patio and had drainage issues as well. Their design made the most of the space and our water problems are remedied! A very professional crew from start to finish. We were so happy that we had them come back and redo our front walk as well.

You can shop around. And you might find cheaper. But there is nobody more knowledgeable and professional than Krugel. We had over 6 quotes and nobody talked about drainage, took a site survey, drew up professional plans, etc. Jon is the best and everyone who works with him is a complete expert. One of The best things about Krugel is their customer service, and in today’s world that is to be applauded. They are not the cheapest way to go , but Jon, the owner, is very knowledgeable and his crews are polite, prompt and responsive. In the Spring of 2023 we hired Krugel Cobbles for a major hardscape project at our house. Once their new design was presented and approved, they removed the old asphalt driveway and then regraded and prepped the area for a new smooth cobblestone driveway. Additionally, they removed an old front concrete patio and replaced it with bluestone on the new patio, front steps & porch, as well as side entry steps off the new driveway. The project took 2 weeks to complete, which also included new custom iron railings for the two entrys. Krugel's work truly exceeded our expectations and greatly improves the look and visual appeal of our residence. Their crews (several specialized crews) were a pleasure to work with. Their professionalism, skills, and precision of work were impressive. We are so happy we did this! We have since recommended Krugel Cobbles to family and friends.

Krugel helped us with a complex project in our front area and they knocked it out of the park. I cannot recommend them enough. They understood our vision immediately and drew up a beautiful design and we no edits! They removed an old concrete walkway for us and leveled out a large slope with a new retaining wall, steps, and a path to the front door. We built a wood burning gas starter outdoor fireplace on our raised patio. The design by Krugel Cobbles was beautiful with added stone seating on each side and plenty of storage for firewood. All the work was professionally done including running the gas line and restoring the gardens. The owner is very easy to work with even when minor changes had to be made. We wholeheartedly recommend them.

Jon, Moira, Manny, Alex and their crews were all great to work with every step of the way. We had a major reconstruction of demolition of old sidewalk and asphalt driveway and a re-laying of large cement paver patio that included putting in a matching addition . The driveway had to be moved, and there were curb cuts and city approvals and grading, so it was major. It all took place during the pandemic but you would never have known it. It was surprisingly pretty stress free because of Jon and Moira. Jon really took time to hear our ideas and our design plan for which he and his architect Moira implemented with extreme ease and excellent communication . There were timely responses to tweaks and modifications. Manny and his crews, (for which they have specialized crews for different parts of the project) were all fantastic. Very nice guys, very respectful, hard, hard workers, and amazing with their skills. I have never experienced such professionalism. We had to have few things fixed after everything settled in, but they came out and made it all look great . We now have a beautiful permeable gray paver driveway, blue slate sidewalks and a refreshed patio with an extension that is such a match you cannot tell much difference. We could not have dreamed of anything better. It transformed our property, and everyone who walks by comments on how wonderful it looks.

Katy at Calafia Landscape Design introduced us to Jon Hirsch at Krugel Cobbles for the hardscape design of the project. Jon was so helpful with recommending the tile and space size of what we needed. A long the way we added pathways and an umbrella, and he was super accommodating. The communication between Katy and Jon was so streamlined it was stress free for us. Jon’s whole team, Matt, Manny Sr., and the rest of the team, were so friendly and respectful to our space. The team was very organized, Matt came in the morning and sometimes at the end of the day to check on the progress of the project. While Manny Sr and team did the physical work they communicated with Matt throughout the day. When there was an issue, they didn’t continue or cover it up, they would stop and waited for Matt to figure out how to move forward. The additional patio space and meandering pathways are so beautiful that it just looks like it should have been there from the beginning. So lucky to have them be part of this project.

We have a steeply sloping rear yard, and heavier rains have taken their toll on old retaining walls. Jon knew the solution for handling the water, and he constructed new retaining walls and steps. They look beautiful. His stonemasons also made a new bluestone entrance, which we continue to receive compliments on. His crew is organized, efficient, experienced, and they do outstanding work.

Krugel Cobbles installed all of the hardscape for our extensive fall 2020 landscaping project: flagstone terrace, stone wall with stone steps, stone paths, limestone front stoop and steps, and repaired our paver driveway. Management and the installation crew were attentive and hard working. The finished product is outstanding and we highly recommend the company.

We were have water collecting by the house (a trilevel) and starting to look like it could seep through a back door. Krugel Cobbles gave us an estimate that was higher than most, but the confidence Jon inspired and the customer service response was amazing. In addition to a solution for our drainage issues, we were given a gorgeous patio. We were told the timetable for installation and an email confirming that we were ready for the work on the day before. The work was done as described with care taken every step of the way. The employees were artisans in their crafts. We had a misunderstanding that was cleared up within 5 minutes. The result was so beautiful, more than we could imagine. We are having our pool demolished and I called Jon to see if I could convince him to take over. Unfortunately, this was not his forte so almost 6 weeks later, I still don't have my pool gone, but I do have a backplow sitting on my front lawn so maybe tomorrow? Krugel Cobbles exemplifies the way a company should work with it's customers.

I regret that I didn't hire them initially when we installed our blue stone pathway as they needed to redo the previous contractor's work.

Last summer Jon and his crew created a beautiful backyard patio with a firepit and built-in grill for our home. We got several different bids but there was no question we were going to go with Jon after talking with him the first time. He is incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Equally important is that he has a team of highly skilled and experienced employees. Many of them have decades of experience. There are many companies out there that do hardscapes but very few, if any, that do as well as Krugel Cobbles. We also really appreciated that he was always available to answer our questions by phone and/or email. As we watched the patio being built you could tell his team are true craftsmen and we really appreciated the attention to the small details of the project. We couldn't be happier with how the project turned out. They also coordinated well with our landscape designer and the project was completed on-time and on budget. There were no surprise charges. We have already hired Jon and his team again this year to replace worn out door sills. That project also turned out flawlessly. We will have some more projects down the road and will only be using Jon because we know the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and professionalism will be second to none.

Jon and his crew completely rebuilt all of the hardscaping at our home. They also did a big project for us many years ago and we were thrilled to work with them again. We used some extremely oversized, difficult to handle pavers on this project and the results are amazing. Krugel Cobbles Review Anyone logging onto the website of Krugel Cobbles would be impresses by the variety and quality of the projects portrayed. From these samples, my husband and I were convinced Krugel Cobbles has the skills and experience to handle the reconstruction of the front walk and steps to our over-100-years-old Victorian house in the Lakewood Balmoral Historic District. The concerns were: “Will such an accomplished outfit be interested in taking up a project of only 25’x10’? Will the cost be prohibitive?” We were intimidated and hesitant! Our landscape designer encouraged us to give it a try, and we are very glad we followed that advice. Jon Hirsch, Krugel’s manager, was able to swing by and survey our project within a few days between their other projects in the city. The moment we saw Jon walk into our yard, we knew we would have no problem discussing our project with him. Jon’s easy going personable demeanor put us at ease immediately, and his esthetic awareness and artistic sensitivity inspired and encouraged us to explore freely for a front walk we could be proud of. Krugel’s extensive connection allowed us to encounter stones that we had never been aware of during previous visits at many stone yards. In the meantime, Krugel was also able to match the more-than 100-year-old bricks so the rebuilt steps integrate seamlessly with the existing foundation. Throughout the project, Jon brought in highly professional craftsmen and closely supervised the details of the progression of the work. Many neighbors came by to admire the stately yet unpretentious front steps and the one-of-the-kind front walk. At the conclusion of the project, Jon said to me: “After more than 4,000 projects we have done, this is the only one of this kind. I am proud of how it came out.” We are too! And it was within our budget!

This past summer, Jon and his Krugel team expanded our back patio and installed a built-in fire pit. They suggested ways to keep the cost down (reused some of our old patio bricks) and suggested putting in an accent strip around the edge. We took their advice and it came out looking fantastic! The project was under budget and completed much quicker than expected.

John came into my construction remodel per the request of my contractor and rescued me from a difficult back door transition that had to change on the fly! Then he worked his magic as we resculpted the entire front entryway, stairs and significant planting beds of my 1927 Tudor which had been woefully 1970-ized, and brought it back to its Tudor glory. Finally he sculpted an outstanding patio in my back which we just love!!! He listened to what I wanted and then made it happen in landscaping reality. In the photos - all flagstone is his work.

Hired Jon,s company to repair 19 year old cobble stone trim and sections of driveway to solve a severe drainage problem. They proceeded to provide a detailed analysis, development of solution to drainage problem (which included installing an iron grate over drainage pipe beneath the cobble stone) and execution of the project. Professional from beginning to completion with timely response and follow up. They went above and beyond the contract terms. Six months after completion and we are very satisfied with the results. Highly recommend.

We rehabbed an early 1980s townhouse and knew sooner or later we would need to replace the hardscaping in the backyard. The existing pavers looked very dated and we were having some serious drainage issues. We put the project off for awhile because all the materials would need to come through our front door and first floor into the yard which could have been a disaster. Jon and his whole team were outstanding. He worked with us on a terrific design and drainage solution within our budget, and his crew showed up on time, were courteous and very careful. Total pros. What a fantastic experience we had working with Jon Hirsch and Krugel Cobbles! After completion of a pretty extensive home facelift which involved relocating our front door, adding a covered entry and re-siding our entire house, the final phase was the installation of a new front walk. To say we love the way it turned out doesn’t even begin to cover it and everyone who sees it tells us how much they love it, too. The hardscape is really stunning and adds such value to our home. I am not talking in monetary terms, although there is no doubt of that. It is really special and totally completes the house makeover — beyond what we had envisioned, especially the beautiful retaining wall, which I must admit may just be my favorite part of the ENTIRE project. When I saw Jon's design plan featuring beautiful endicott bricks in the perfect herringbone pattern, I jokingly said we would have the best front walk in the neighborhood, but it turned out to be so true. It was, by far, the most seamless part of the whole remodeling process and Jon and his entire crew were such a pleasure to work with from start to finish. So professional, so thoughtful, so conscientious and right on time and budget. I would not hesitate to call on them again. Can't recommend Krugel Cobbles highly enough.

We hired Jon Hirsch and Krugel Cobbles in the spring of 2018 to rebuild a heavily degraded front terrace and walkway on our 1920s brick Tudor in Lake Forest. Krugel undertook a very thorough and patient restoration of the terrace. Jon provided expertise guidance on how to rebuild the terrace in as historically sympathetic manner as possible and his team worked with multiple materials including antique brick, bluestone, concrete and limestone. They carefully recovered and reused as much of the original building material as was possible and obtained other historical material from multiple sources. The finished project is beautiful and we were so impressed with the outcome we hired Krugel to install a reclaimed Barr clay paver driveway in the summer of 2018. Jon and his crew again worked magic: they shepherded us through the permit process, designed the driveway and drainage given tight, unusual space constraints, and installed a beautiful drive to compliment our vintage house. The front terrace and driveway look terrific and we'll derive years of hassle-free use and aesthetic enjoyment from them. We've already received numerous compliments from neighbors. Everyone at Krugel including Jon, project manager Matt, crew boss Jose and all the members of the crew are highly professional. They showed up at 7:30 AM sharp every morning, cleaned-up thoughtfully as the project progressed and staged the work seamlessly. Good communication is second nature for them all. We hired Krugel Cobbles to install a large paver patio in our backyard. My initial meeting with Jon was terrific. He immediately understood the project and made suggestions to improve it. He subcontracted with a fence company as we needed a new back fence as well. His team did excellent, careful work, and were a pleasure to have in our yard for a few days. The project turned out just as my wife and I pictured it. We've had some not-so-great experiences with home improvement projects in the past. But Krugel Cobbles took the care to get it just right, and gives us hope for future projects. We will definitely call Krugel again if we ever do another hardscape project.

I have used Krugle Cobbles for two projects and plan to use them for my third and final one. The first project was to remove my cement walkway and replace it with brick. I chose a combination of 3 colors, brick red, grey and taupe. I was concerned that the colors wouldn't flow as I had seen in a picture. However, it turned out spectacularly. The workers told me they'd be aware of the color balance and they lived up to their word. My second project was to fix my sunken brick steps from house to patio, level the surrounding bricks and put a sealer in between my patio pavers to rid the weeds of summer. The job was on time, well managed, and turned out great. The interaction I had with Jon, the president of the company was personalized, comfortable and not a hard sell routine. It was a pleasure. I plan to put in one more area of patio this Spring and I wouldn't think of using anyone but Krugle Cobbles. Truly, they are reliable, know what they're doing and deliver on their word.

I used Krugel Cobbles out of LakeBluff, Il to redo my driveway. I had seen their work around the neighborhood and was very impressed with there creativity. When I decided to call them, Jon Hirsch, the company president came out to discuss my project. In our discussions he asked me for a plat of survey and said they would do a design and send it to me, even though I had not committed to work with his company yet. The design was very creative. I talked to several other companies, no one else took the time to discuss design or do a drawing for me. The outcome was extraordinary and was better than I could have ever imagined. All of the staff and workers were so professional and kind. They did an amazing job. I would not hesitate to Krugel Cobbles and John Hirsch.

I couldn’t be happier with the customer service and quality project provided by Krugel Cobbles. Our 1923 home’s original driveway was crumbling. The rear flagstone and pea gravel walk was a maintenance nightmare. So we decided on installing more attractive and durable brick pavers. Through every step of the process, Jon Hirsch provided top-notch advice and customer service. For example, we were not totally happy with the appearance of the first set of sample bricks Jon brought. So, Jon without hesitation provided more samples. Similarly, Jon proposed a design that would reduce our pavement footprint and save us money on installation (which we actually rejected). The quality of the installation is superb. It looks great. Our paved areas drain much better than before. And there is less maintenance. Krugel's price for the project was on par with other large competitors, but there communication and service was much more personalized. It was an easy choice to go with Krugel Cobbles. We strongly recommend them.

Krugel Cobbles just completed installing a new patio for us as well as some flood abatement. We were very satisfied with their design expertise and installation. I chose Krugel Cobbles, Inc. to do my house project after I reviewed and compared the estimates of 5 different hardscape contractors. Their estimate was very carefully detailed, included a drawing and all the materials and prices. We met with Jon the first time and he was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He understood our needs and gave us suggestions. Their price was fair and less than some of the other contractors. The project included: add front step cladding: front walk extension: front walk panel addition; front stoop cladding and wall releveling. We engaged Jon Hirsch and Krugel Cobbles after a recommendation by our landscaper, Katy Sheppard of Calafia Design (calafia-design.com). Jon helped us first successfully solve a backyard water issue with the use of Aqua Bloxs and drainage pipes. We hired Krugle to help design and build out our back patio. They were able to take our crazy ideas and make them a reality. The patio turned out perfect! We heard of Krugel Cobbles from a neighbor who used them for a blue stone patio. We wanted to find a great patio builder with the ability to help us design two patios on our home. Kruger Cobble was very responsive and provided a very fair price for the work to be completed. The value was GREAT. They built a front patio in blue stone, adding to our front door landing and created a very welcome look. The staff showed up every morning and was very professional, the type of image you hope to see with a fine craftsman. They completed all work on time and also built a second patio in our back yard. Overall, we are extremely happy with the workmanship and with the start of winter, the patios are not moving and are maintaining their beauty. I am sure we will enjoy both for many years thanks for the quality of the install. They even built me a small retaining wall to keep soil from moving onto the patio during heavy rains in the summer. These small details made a huge difference in the long term usability of the patios.

We had our patio redone by Krugel Cobbles this past summer. We couldn't be happier with the work. It was a small project and we were concerned that it wasn't a big enough job for them but they put our fears at east. The work was done over three days and the patio was fantastic. There had been a discrepancy with some of the measurements and we were willing to live with it but to our surprise they came back a few days later and said "I realized I made a mistake after looking over the plans. I'd like to come back and correct it." That blew my mind. You don't a commitment to the job like that very often. Overall we couldn't be happier. The work was done on time and within budget and looks great.

We contracted with Krugel Cobbles to redo our front driveway and hardscape and could not have been more pleased. We interviewed several companies but they came through as an obvious choice compared to the others. THey have significant experience working with older, stately homes. We had a chance to look at some of the work they had done on homes in the area and by far their work stood the test of time both in terms of design and durability. Their proposal was thorough and easy to understand and there were no unanticipated surprises on the final invoice. The workmen were meticulous with every step of the job. In fact, we thought they were finished and were surprised to find them back at the house the next day doing some final touches on the work to make it absolutely perfect. We especially appreciated that the foreman checked on the job on a regular basis, ensuring that everything was done according to our specifications and keeping us informed of the progress. My wife and I restored our vintage Lincoln Park Row House and wanted an outdoor space that provided privacy and an entertainment space. Krugel installed walkways, a patio and a seat wall. Their employees were very consciousness and the finished product exceeded our expectations. Their work was done as discussed and finished in a timely manner. WorK; Remove 1050 sf of pavers weighing 60 lbs apiece (total wt of 376 pavers was 22,600+ lbs) from roof of 4 story condo bldg. in Chicago, transport to building garage, and dispose off site. We had investigated several companies to perform this work. Only Jon Hirsch, VP Krugel Cobbles, provided a quote to remove the materials that was highly detailed, competitive, and had a FIRM PRICE and time schedule. Other quotes were open-ended (no firm price) or absurdly high. Also, Krugel's has a lot of experience doing roof deck work on condo buildings in Chicago, and Jon explained why his approach was most cost-effective and minimized neighbor disruption. We contacted Jon three months later to actually perform the work; his quote only changed to include disposal of material. We also asked him to do this as quickly as possible; miraculously he was able to squeeze us in to accomplish all of this within one week of our request. The work team was polite, professional, super-efficient and highly experienced at moving this type of material through the interior of our condo and the condo building common elements. They were most careful not to touch any interior walls or damage floor surfaces. They moved material in small amounts to be well under any weight limits AND they inspected and cleaned after the job was finished. Jon gave us a commitment to get the work done in two days, and he put extra people on it to make sure he met the deadline, while the price of the job remained the same as his quote! We have had over 30 years experience with a variety of contractors and landscapers as we remodeled or built homes. Very few contractors did work with such speed, quality and care, and even fewer honored their commitments as Krugel Cobbles did. This company did MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! We can't wait to work with them again.

Krugel Cobbles were very professional from start to finish. Jon Hirsch came out for the estimate and suggested using a mix of the current pavers along with new pavers, which saved money. Krugel Cobbles, Inc. did a fabulous job. They rebuilt retaining walls in the back of our home as well as added a courtyard with retaining walls on the north west side of our home. Our home has a Jens Jensen garden in the front of our home and they renovated this garden so the walls which were falling down now match the original design. They also reinstalled a pond with water fall which was originally on the Jensen blueprint of our home. In essence, all hardscapes on our entire property were renovated/added and installed by Krugel under the supervision of Jon Hirsch (Krugel) and Kettelkamp (landscape architects). This includes walls, walks, stepping stones, landings, driveway apron, steps, outcropping, water feature, and drainage. We are completely delighted with the work Krugel Cobbles has done on our property and highly recommend them to others interested in high quality work. We have been so proud of the work that was done that we wanted others to see it. As a result it has been on the North Shore Garden Walk as well as the Lincolnshire Garden Club Walk. Jon at Krugel designed a new patio to replace an existing installation and solve a drainage problem. The design process was professional yet casual including his guidance about selection of materials and colors. It solved the drainage problem, and yielded more usable space in our small urban townhome yard with attractive and functional elements. We have used Krugel for three projects at our residence: a sub-turf reinforced parking area; a walled patio; a drainage solution for rain water that seeped into the basement.
