For small areas in the shade, or better the north/ northeast end, I like to achieve a look with color and texture. The river rock border divides the bed from the house adding use for catching water off the roof and texture to the bed. Pink Ruffle Azaleas bloom year round and stays compact. Pairing the Azaleas with a variegated foliage and planting colorful annuals as the front layer really brightens the space. Topping of the bed with a light colored brick paver as a bordercompletes the cohesive look.
