Southern Louisiana is best know for the sub-tropical region, so in that favor, tropical plants can be used year round. This particular spot was in a corner in the backyard that was along a fence line. Hierarchy was key in accomplishing a solid layering affect. Oleanders will screen the fence along with Bird of Paradise. The middle tier is layered with variegated and tri-color Ginger, 'Xanadu' Philodendron, Hydrangea and Banana Plants.
The inner middle, and lowest layer, was created to make movement with vibrant annual color that hugged up against the middle. Coleus meanders across and Impatiens fill the rest. I love to highlight with a bright border to make it feel like one piece.
