Play Del Ray Residence
A young family wanted to update the landscape of their Playa del Rey 1980’s modern style home. The goal was to dust off decades and fast track the landscape into the 21st century.
The concept was to warm up the imposing structures by adding wood panels and decks, maximize the small backyard and to activate the unused roof spaces. The use of Ipe on horizontal surfaces and darkly stained redwood for decking added a rich warmth. An Uber bench is tucked behind a newly installed Ipe fence and drive gate which surrounds the poured segmented entry walk. In back, the pool was re-plastered, a contemporary dark coping, bright water line and spa dam tiling along with hypnotizing pool and spa lights and a totally fun slide were added. A new outdoor kitchen with seating counter invites folks to enjoy a meal. All of these elements update the back yard into a sophisticated family hang out.
