Pond in the Fields

This site is located in a rural agricultural area in the Blue Mountains region of Ontario. The owners wanted to fit a natural swimming pool within the framework of a modern terrace framed by linear concrete walls designed by Building Arts Architecture to enclose and shelter the space from relentless winds from the west. The clean, simple lines of the terrace and walls create a striking effect and juxtaposition against the pool's natural character and the site's natural/rural flavour. This is one of our larger natural swim ponds, with a 1500ft2 footprint.

Plantings are new, and will gradually fill in the landscape around the pool. Water bubbles out between the three large boulders stacked along the shoreline. This client did not want a waterfall, but instead preferred a more muted effect.

The terrace is constructed of locally quarried jumbo flagstone. Water discharges into an aquatic garden via three corten steel pipes, in a concession to the site's rural character.
