Before starting construction on this job we had to remove the standard grey patio slabs that seem to plague your everyday backyard. We installed a small retaining wall with a curved step to address the grading issues of the property and act as seating for both levels. The clients later installed a small pergola to add further dimension to their backyard. The steps that we used for this job are a Permacon Hemmingford step. They're a wet cast concrete product that has a different consistency than traditional concrete during forming. There's a variance in texture between wet and dry cast concrete products and wet cast concrete products should never be used in an area where de-icing salt will be used.
The long retaining wall was constructed a few short months later when the clients got tired of looking at their deteriorating railway tie wall.
