Richmond Hill Refresh
This inviting deck was built in 2017, the builders did a great job however the wood was left to age in the elements without any protection. The result is just over 1 year later the wood has dried, warped, cracked and cupped everywhere. The once nice miter details of the handrails have warped and separated leaving gaps that can cut the hand. The deck boards have cupped badly and are now holding standing water on them.
We were called in to take a look. Our process was to sand and buff every bit of wood. We removed the sprinters and sap runs. We sanded flat all of the cupped boards (yikes this took a long time) and fixed the handrails.
We then coated all of the would in a very high quality wood preservative oil. This is the equivalent of moisturizing dry skin. We apply the oil generously by brush and you can see it instantly get sucked into the bone dry wood. In a few weeks we will give all of the horizontal elements one more good coat of oil and this deck will last for years. The best part is that this protection will never chip, flake or peel of like the junk the big box stores sell.
