The goal of this project was to transform a typically formal and unused space into a warm and inviting conversation area for family and friends. The choice of upholstery and wall colors helped lend to that, in addition to the rich stain of the darker wood pieces. The homeowner was fortunate enough to have many sentimental pieces and family heirlooms to work with as well, which helped personalize the project. The crystal chandelier was brought from overseas, the family picture above the buffet was custom framed to accent the room and the mirror above the sofa was an antique that was updated to fit the space.
Many homeowners are hesitant to make a room multi-functional, but the addition of the game table by the window was a big hit. Now the room is also used for "family game night" as well as for adult card games and it can double as extra dining space for overflow on the holidays.
