This was a small space, made even smaller by initially having a round cafe table by the window and darker oak cabinetry and woodwork. We couldn't change the overall footprint, but we did open up a passageway between the kitchen and dining room for better use of light and a more open feel. The lighter cabinetry throughout also created the illusion of a larger room. We intermixed some darker pieces and a richer floor stain to help tie in the areas of the home that were not addressed in this phase. Getting the microwave off of the counter helped add to the prep space and the integration of internal storage and accessories in the cabinet helped maximize their function.
