This spacious 5000 square foot house was created as a long-stay vacation home with a future plan of year-round residence. The client desired a home built for longevity and envisioned a retreat for generations to follow. The location of the house is on a beautiful ridge of land in East Charlotte. The clients connected to this site for its blend of pastoral landscape characteristics; stone walls, maple sugarwoods, rolling fields and extended views of distant farm structures and the natural beauty of Camels Hump. Designed as a series of connected and stepped forms along a precipice, the playful character of the house celebrates the land and creates a sense of place in the pastoral landscape. The open timber porch connector takes advantage of the ridge contours and separates the garage so that the house does not appear too large.
